On June 1, 1960, Dr. Martin Janssen and his wife Carole came to town with two little boys in tow. They moved from Oak Park, Illinois when Carole’s father, Dr. Weihe, called and asked Dr. Janssen to come to Adams to help start the Adams County Memorial Hospital.  

The City of Adams City Council convened a brief 15 minute session on Monday, Feb 21. The roll call affirmed that all Alderpersons were present. Two guests were in attendance.
Mayor Hilson announced that the 2021 audit has begun. He also urged residents to observe the winter parking restrictions despite the mild winter.

The Adams County Board of Supervisors took up three resolutions at its February 15 meeting to consider further American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) expenditures. Adams County received approximately $1.9 million in 2021 and will receive another $1.9 million later this year.

Wisconsin School Bus Driver Appreciation week began on February 14 and our local bus drivers deserve to be appreciated.  One driver, Howard Travis, 85 and a half years old, who lives about five miles out of Big Flats in the Township of Colburn, will soon be celebrating 50 years as a bus driver!

The Ad Hoc Building Committee will begin searching for a new home for a possible new administrative building and Health and Human Services facility after the Village of Friendship refused to change the zoning at the North St property the County was planning to purchase from the City of Adams.

President Tony Sindelar called the meeting to order and roll call was taken of board members.  All Board members were present. The minutes of the January 2022 regular meeting were approved unanimously.

The Planning & Zoning Committee took up the outstanding conditional use permit (CUP) request relating to the Grand Marsh Elementary School property acquired by Alsum Farms last year at the February 2 meeting.

February 14 is still the target opening day for the new single point of entry to the County Courthouse Building, it was reported at the January 28 Ad Hoc Building Committee meeting. Beginning that day all employees and visitors to the County facility will be screened upon entering the building.

Twenty-one students completed the DNR snowmobile safety course presented by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Adams County Snowmobile Association on Saturday January 15 at the Grand Marsh Community Center.  Lunch and a cake were provided by the Grand Marsh Pathfinders Snowmobile Club.
