Mark De Valk, age 53, of Milwaukee, was sentenced for possessing a firearm while a felon on December 8 in Adams County Court. De Valk was convicted of his fourth OWI in 2012 and was out on bond for a 2020 charge in Adams County for intentionally subjecting an individual at risk to harm, at the time of arrest.
The Adams County Drug-Free Task Force met using Zoom on November 17, 2021. The meeting was attended by representatives from Adams County, Juneau County, and various local agencies. The first item discussed was the health coping options open to Adams County residents.
James Siegert was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the death of Mackenzie Matrick from a fentanyl overdose in 2018. Siegert, age 37, of Adams, was convicted by a jury on three counts on July 23 including first degree reckless homicide. Matrick was 21 at the time of her death.
John Dotson, age 50, of Friendship, appeared in Adams County Court on November 10 facing four counts including substantial battery with intent to cause harm, battery (with domestic abuse assessments), criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct.
A case involving a deadly hit-and-run accident on STH 13 in the Town of Big Flats in 2020 concluded on November 17 with the sentencing of Matthew Olson for homicide by vehicle while under the influence of controlled substances. Olson, age 43, pleaded guilty to the charge on June 29 of this year.
Ronald Allen, age 58, of Wisconsin Rapids, appeared in Adams County Court on Nov. 10 facing charges related to his third and fourth OWI’s. Both incidents occurred roughly a month apart.
Anthony Novak, age 20, of Dodgeville, appeared in Adams County Court on Nov. 9 facing charges of second- and third-degree child sexual assault. The victim was age 13 at the time.
On November 3, 2021, the Adams County Drug-Free Task Force presented a “Let’s Talk Drugs: Top 5 Questions” online using Zoom. This presentation was a follow-up from a live presentation given earlier on November 3 at the high school; it will also be given for middle-school students soon.
